I WOULD DECORATE THE SKY WITH YOU

If under this domed roof of laughing stars
I could wrap you with wispy strands of clouds,
And place you in the heavens
To shine and sparkle among those perfect jewels;
Would then that all your doubts and fears
Be made as gentle as starlight’s smile,
Caressing these meadow grasses
With the faraway light of a billion suns.

There, beyond earth’s pull,
Your breath no longer heavy with sighs…
Freed to coax the clouds
Like drifting whorls of milkweed seed,
And give these stems of grasses their song
Where storms no longer trouble you;
A place so high that you can never more ignore
How delicately you bless this world
